The National Association of Patigi Emirate Students (NAPES) has issued an urgent appeal to the public, disclosing that a final-year student of Ahman Pategi University and his brother are being held captive by kidnappers who have demanded a staggering ransom of fifty million naira (₦50,000,000). The association, in a statement signed by its Executive President, Comrade Yakubu Jamilat Talatu, identified the student as Gana Usman, a final-year student of the Department of English at Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, Kwara State.
According to the student body, Gana Usman and his brother were abducted by kidnappers and are currently being held in an undisclosed location. The abductors have reportedly contacted the victim’s family and insisted on the ₦50 million ransom as a non‑negotiable condition for the release of the two captives. The incident has caused widespread panic within the university community, particularly among students of the Department of English, where Usman is in his final year of study. The student association described the situation as “disturbing and heartbreaking,” noting that the ransom demand has placed an unbearable financial burden on the victim’s family, which is unable to meet the amount on its own. NAPES has therefore made a passionate appeal to the general public, philanthropists, community leaders, and stakeholders to provide urgent financial support to assist the family in raising the necessary funds. “Every contribution, regardless of its amount, will go a long way in assisting the family during this challenging period. No amount is too small,” the association’s statement read. As of press time, security agencies had not issued any official statement regarding rescue efforts or contact with the abductors. The student body has urged well‑meaning Nigerians to act swiftly, warning that any delay could worsen the situation as the fate of the captives remains uncertain.
This abduction marks another escalation in the deteriorating security situation in Kwara State, particularly in the Patigi area. The incident has cast a dark cloud over the academic community, with students and residents expressing growing fears over the increasing insecurity affecting communities and educational institutions across the country. The National Association of Patigi Emirate Students prayed for the safe return of the abducted student and his brother, while appealing to the public for solidarity and support: “May Almighty Allah reward every donor abundantly and grant the victims a safe return to their loved ones.”
