A violent cult clash in the heart of Kwara State has resulted in the deaths of four people, with two others fighting for their lives after suspected cultists opened fire at a bamboo bar in the Post Office area of the state capital. The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, June 15, 2026, stating that the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, when about five armed men stormed a shanty bamboo bar along the Railway area of Post Office and opened fire on individuals who were relaxing at the location.
Following a distress call, police operatives promptly responded and rushed the victims to the Police Clinic, where four of them were confirmed dead by medical personnel. Two other victims are currently battling for their lives. Preliminary findings by the command indicated that the incident was cult-related, and comprehensive investigations have led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious and deadly cult group linked to the attack. “The suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations and facilitate the identification and apprehension of other members of the criminal gang,” the command added.
The police have fully mobilised tactical, intelligence, and covert assets to track down every individual connected to the crime, committing to ensuring all suspects are arrested and face the full wrath of the law. The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed the incident and indicated that the police are on the scene. The attack has heightened security concerns in the area, with residents noting that this is the fourth deadly incident in the Post Office area in recent times. Authorities are calling for calm and have pledged to intensify efforts to curb the rising wave of cult-related violence in the state.
