Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have delivered a decisive blow to the Lakurawa terrorist group in the Dogon Daji general area of Dandi Local Government Area, Kebbi State, forcing the insurgents to abandon a large cache of weapons, improvised explosive devices, and logistics equipment after a fierce engagement on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The Nigerian Army confirmed the development in a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division and Sector 2, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The operation, which was part of a sustained offensive to rid the North‑West region of terrorism and banditry, saw troops bring superior firepower to bear on the Lakurawa group, decisively overwhelming the terrorists and forcing them to flee. A follow‑up aggressive pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes led to the recovery of a massive haul of arms and explosives abandoned by the fleeing elements. Items recovered from the camp included Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility, battery chargers, and various personal belongings. The troops emerged from the engagement unscathed, with zero casualties recorded.
The successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the region. The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to sustain offensive pressure on these criminal elements, denying them freedom of action and disrupting their nefarious activities to ensure the safety and security of law‑abiding citizens.
