A housewife in Kano State has allegedly stabbed her husband to death less than two months after their wedding, a source has told Daily Trust. The suspect, identified simply as Fatima, is accused of plunging a knife into the throat of her husband, Auwalu, following an argument in their home at Rimin Kebe quarters in the Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and the suspect, who is said to be in her early twenties, was immediately arrested by officers of the Zango Police Division in Dantamashe.
A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Trust that the deceased cried out for help after being attacked. “Fatima hit his throat with a knife. He came out shouting that it was his wife who stabbed him. He was rushed to the police station and later to the hospital, but he died before arrival,” the source said. The source disclosed that the suspect had openly expressed her disdain for the marriage, describing it as a forced union. The source said the woman allegedly stabbed the deceased over what she called forced marriage, saying she never liked the slain husband.
According to the resident, the couple’s marriage was less than two months old. “Their marriage is less than two months old. The wife is presently under police custody,” the source added. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the quiet Rimin Kebe community, with neighbours and relatives mourning the sudden loss of a young man barely weeks after his wedding. Residents disclosed that the couple had faced challenges in their relationship and were not romantically attached before entering into the marriage.
The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, did not immediately respond to calls or messages seeking official confirmation of the arrest. Efforts to reach the police spokesperson as at the time of filing this report proved abortive. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is expected to be conducted by the security authorities. The case has reignited conversations about the importance of mutual understanding, conflict resolution, and the legal and emotional implications of forced marriage in Nigerian society.
