Tension has gripped Ogbe Community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State following the reported abduction of an indigenous resident and his child by suspected armed bandits along the Ogbe–Koro Road on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitnesses and community sources, the incident occurred near the popular "Welcome to Ogbe" signboard less than an hour before reports of the attack began circulating within the community. Witnesses said the victims were travelling along the road when they were intercepted and taken away by the attackers.
The latest incident has deepened anxiety among residents who say insecurity has become an increasing concern along the Ogbe–Koro corridor. Community members described the development as another troubling episode in a series of recent security breaches affecting communities in the area.
Sources familiar with local developments further alleged that five other residents believed to be of Bassa origin were abducted from their farms within the past week. While those reports were widely discussed among residents, official confirmation of the incidents was not immediately available.
If the accounts from community sources are confirmed, the latest abduction would bring the number of reported kidnapping victims in the area to seven within a week, raising fresh concerns about the safety of commuters, farmers and residents.
Residents who spoke to community leaders after the incident called for urgent intervention from security agencies, stressing that the increasing frequency of reported abductions is creating fear among families and affecting economic activities, particularly farming and movement along rural roads.
Several residents expressed concern that the Ogbe–Koro Road, an important route connecting communities within the area, has become increasingly vulnerable to criminal activity. They urged law enforcement authorities to strengthen patrols, improve intelligence gathering and ensure a rapid response to distress calls from affected communities.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by security authorities regarding the reported abduction. Efforts to obtain comments from relevant security agencies were ongoing.
The incident remains a developing story, and further details are expected as authorities, community leaders and eyewitnesses provide additional information on the circumstances surrounding the attack and ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.
