AUCHI, Nigeria – A motor park worker, identified simply as Jogodo (also known as Francis), was fatally shot on Monday, June 15, 2026, by suspected gunmen at the Abiodun Motor Park, Jattu Junction, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, an incident that has prompted a police investigation, the arrest of three suspects, and the temporary sealing of the park to prevent further violence. The assailants reportedly arrived at the scene in a black Lexus RX 350 Sports Utility Vehicle, opened fire on the victim at close range, and reportedly waited to ensure he was dead before fleeing the scene. The attack, which occurred around 10:30 a.m., caused panic among passengers, traders, and passersby who scrambled for safety. While the motive for the killing could not be immediately established, sources linked the attack to an alleged rivalry over the control of the motor park.

The latest killing occurred less than 72 hours after another man, identified simply as Happy, was reportedly shot dead around the Ugbihoko area along Ekehuan Road in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. In that incident, Happy was said to be returning home from work when the attackers, who had laid an ambush, emerged and shot him at close range while his wife was opening the gate to their residence. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

Confirming the developments, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, stated that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the Auchi killing. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. Ikoedem also disclosed that the motor park had been temporarily sealed off following the incident. According to preliminary investigations, the violence is connected to a dispute over the control of the park, and the closure was necessary to prevent further bloodshed. She noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to have participated in the attack.

The two killings have raised fresh concerns over cult-related violence in the state. As of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the identities of the gunmen remain unknown, and investigations are continuing. The Edo State Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to maintain law and order in the affected areas intensify.
