The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a series of coordinated breakthroughs across Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo, dismantling criminal networks involved in illegal firearms possession, generator theft, and vehicle parts theft. Six suspects have been arrested, and exhibits including a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones have been recovered in operations carried out by the Violent Crime Response Unit, the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, and the Ibafo Division.
In the first operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on intelligence received on May 30, 2026, arrested Moruf Sodiq, also known as Okiki, a key suspect linked to a coordinated generator theft network operating in Abeokota and its environs. Sodiq led operatives to Mumuni Amodu, also known as Stone, identified as the receiver of stolen property. A search of the premises led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen. In a further breakthrough, the operatives arrested Abayomi John, also known as Ibafo, a motorcyclist who allegedly provided logistics support by conveying suspects to targeted locations. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, acting on intelligence on June 12, 2026, arrested Adeboye Ojesina, 58, in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and alleged use of the weapons to threaten residents in Wasimi and adjoining communities. A search of his premises led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, one pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge. Ojesina initially denied ownership but later claimed he recovered the pistol and discharged a round to test its functionality, while also alleging that the pump-action rifle was handed over to him by an unidentified individual. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons connected to the case.
In a third operation, operatives of the Ibafo Division, acting on a complaint of theft at a site in Igbeti Sote Village on June 13, 2026, arrested Afisu Awesu while he was allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component. Further investigation revealed that the suspect and an accomplice, who escaped, had earlier stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo, who was arrested as the alleged receiver of stolen property. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and fully dismantle the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and tactical precision, reaffirming the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained fight against crime. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
