ADO-EKITI, Nigeria – A private motorcycle rider has been confirmed dead following a tragic accident that occurred on Thursday, June 18, 2026, along the Ori Apata area of Adebayo in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, according to eyewitness accounts and reports from the scene.

The incident involved a motorcycle rider who reportedly attempted to overtake a truck on a narrow section of road. According to those at the scene, the rider was not a commercial motorcyclist. The motorcycle tried to maneuver through a tight double-lane stretch where one lane was blocked due to ongoing road construction by the Ekiti State Government, forcing traffic into a single lane. The truck driver reportedly said he was not immediately aware of the motorcycle overtaking until the collision occurred.

The accident drew the attention of passersby, travelers, and commercial drivers plying the route. Many were left in shock at the scene and called for caution from road users, especially in areas affected by construction. As of the time of this report, the identity of the victim had not been confirmed. Sympathizers who gathered at the scene said the body was badly damaged, making identification difficult.

Security and emergency officials are yet to release an official statement on the incident. Residents and motorists have since appealed to the state government and relevant agencies to improve traffic management and safety measures around construction zones to prevent further loss of lives.
