The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed a terrorist attack on Tsamiya town, which left property destroyed and one resident abducted. The attack occurred late on Saturday, Juneβ€―20,β€―2026, when armed assailants stormed the community, fired sporadically, and set several structures ablaze. Among the affected structures were a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a local brothel, and the house of a resident identified as Sule Mai Goge. The attackers also abducted one Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare during the incident, according to the police.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued early Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the Commissioner of Police had ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area. “The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed tactical personnel to Tsamiya Town following an attack by suspected terrorists in the late hours of 20th June 2026,” Usman said. He explained that upon receiving reports of the attack, security agencies moved swiftly to respond and reinforce security in the affected community. “Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security forces to secure lives and property,” he stated.

The police spokesman disclosed that a full-scale investigation had been launched into the incident, while efforts were underway to rescue the kidnapped victim and apprehend those responsible. “A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” Usman added. The command assured residents of Tsamiya and surrounding communities that security operations would be sustained until normalcy was fully restored. “The Command assures residents of Tsamiya and environs that security operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored,” the statement said. Police also urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations. Authorities said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The attack comes amid persistent security challenges in Kebbi State, where communities have endured repeated assaults by armed groups, including the Lakurawa terrorist network, which has been active in the North-West region. Just days before the Tsamiya attack, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma had repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered high-calibre weapons, improvised explosive devices and logistics equipment during a clearance operation in the state. In a separate incident earlier in June, three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps were reportedly killed along the Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area. The latest attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by non-state armed groups operating across the region, which have continued to target rural communities, security outposts and civilian infrastructure with impunity. Residents of Tsamiya and other vulnerable communities have repeatedly called on authorities to strengthen security presence and intelligence gathering to prevent further attacks.
