The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved a sweeping cabinet reshuffle that has led to the dismissal of all Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants serving in the state government. The decision, announced on Monday, June 29, 2026, also affected the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor.
According to a statement issued by the Governor's Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola, the shake-up is described as a "minor cabinet reshuffle." The move, the statement explained, is designed to extend opportunities to more party members and inject fresh energy into the administration. Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his gratitude to all the appointees for their "priceless service" to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.
As part of the directive, all affected appointees have been instructed to hand over all government properties in their custody to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. The governor's decision is being viewed as a strategic reorganisation aimed at broadening political participation and repositioning the administration for the next phase of governance in Kwara State. The governor noted that public service remains an important responsibility regardless of position, and the reshuffle is meant to create room for more stakeholders to contribute to governance while bringing renewed momentum to the implementation of government policies.
The latest move has drawn attention as the state prepares for the next electoral cycle. Some political observers have suggested that the reshuffle could be a precursor to further changes within the state's political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening governance and ensuring that capable individuals are brought on board to drive the state's development agenda.
