A wave of grief and fear has swept through Rafin Ciyawa village in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State after suspected bandits launched a brutal attack on Sunday night, June 28, 2026, killing two residents and abducting five others, including a heavily pregnant woman and four men. Four other residents sustained gunshot injuries during the assault, which security analyst Bakatsine described in a post shared on X on Monday, June 29, 2026.
According to Bakatsine, the heavily armed gunmen stormed the village and opened fire on residents, throwing the community into panic. He wrote that the attackers killed two people and abducted five others, among them a pregnant woman. The abducted victims have been identified as four men and a pregnant woman, though their identities have not yet been officially released. Of the four residents injured in the attack, two have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment, while two others remain hospitalised in Bauchi with gunshot wounds sustained during the assault. The fate of the abducted victims, particularly the pregnant woman, remains unknown, leaving their families in agonising uncertainty.
Local authorities have confirmed the incident and assured residents that appropriate measures are being taken in response to the attack. However, the assault has once again highlighted the growing insecurity in Bauchi State, where bandits have increasingly targeted rural communities. For the families of the abducted victims, the wait is unbearable. The pregnant woman among them—already vulnerable and carrying precious life—faces an uncertain fate. The question on every lip is stark and urgent: will she and the others make it home alive? As one resident lamented, "No community should have to endure this cycle of fear and loss." The attack on Rafin Ciyawa is a grim reminder of the human cost of Nigeria's security crisis, where innocent families are torn apart and communities are left to grieve while living under the constant shadow of violence.
