The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has rescued a kidnapped victim and arrested a father and his three sons in Oba-Ile, Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, identified as Iliasu (56), and his sons Usman (33), Wahab (27), and Yakubu (18), were paraded alongside 28 other suspects linked to kidnapping and 15 others for various criminal offences at a press briefing in Akure on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The Amotekun Corps Commander, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that the victim was abducted while travelling to Oba Akoko. The victim's family paid a ransom without informing security agencies, but the kidnappers refused to release the victim and threatened the family against reporting the incident. The family eventually approached Amotekun for intervention, prompting the corps to launch a rescue operation.
Adeleye stated that the suspects used cattle rearing as a cover for their criminal activities. During the operation, the kidnappers attacked Amotekun operatives, but the team successfully overpowered them and rescued the victim. The victim had been tortured with knives and cutlasses on the head and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Amotekun operatives recovered over 75 per cent of the ransom paid, which was returned to the victim's family.
Adeleye reiterated that Amotekun does not encourage the payment of ransom and urged the public to report kidnapping incidents to security agencies promptly. He also commended the cooperation of other security agencies, including the police, army, and DSS, in maintaining peace and security across the state.
