Troops of 17 Brigade, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in a joint operation with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, successfully foiled a major livestock rustling attempt in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday evening, June 30, 2026.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after local residents alerted authorities that bandits were moving a large herd of rustled livestock through Kaddanya village. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the joint force laid an ambush at Sabari Reraya village, where they intercepted the suspects.
A brief firefight followed, with troops bringing superior firepower to bear, forcing the terrorists to abandon the stolen livestock and flee into the surrounding bushes. The recovered livestock has been secured, while efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owners and return the animals to them.
The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations and the critical role of community cooperation in combating banditry and livestock rustling in Katsina State. The military has urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the North-West region.
