Operatives of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service have arrested seven suspected armed bandits during a midnight operation in Kubau Local Government Area, recovering a locally made firearm, cash, mobile phones, charms, and other incriminating items in a strike that has dealt a significant blow to criminal networks operating along the Ikara–Zuntu corridor.

The operation was conducted at about 2:12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, led by the Kubau Sector Coordinator, Abubakar Shuaibu, following intelligence that prompted security operatives to lay an ambush along the Ikara–Zuntu route. According to the Kaduna State Vigilance Service, the road has been identified as a major corridor frequently used by suspected bandits and kidnappers, particularly on market days, making it a strategic target for proactive security intervention.

During the operation, operatives intercepted a Golf 3 vehicle with registration number PHC 146 XA conveying the suspects. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made gun, ₦350,750 in cash, six mobile phones, charms, iron rods, and other exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities. The suspects were identified as Bello Tarmo, Umar Alhassan, Shedi Tukur, who was reportedly driving the vehicle, Iliya Ibrahim, and Saleh Haruna, with authorities confirming that all seven suspects were from communities including Ikara, Zuntu, Kargi, and Anchau.

In a separate operation, Kaduna State Vigilance Service operatives arrested a suspect identified as Dini, a resident of Kano State, for allegedly stealing metal materials belonging to a mining company in Kubau Local Government Area. The vigilance service said all suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the Kaduna State Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Kaduna, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led security initiatives and community collaboration in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in Kaduna State. The Kaduna State Vigilance Service has reiterated its commitment to complementing other security agencies in enhancing the safety of lives and property across the state. As investigations continue, the service has called on residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
