The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two police officers and injuries to several others following a tragic road accident involving seven personnel on official duty.
The incident occurred on June 29, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, according to a statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the deaths as a painful loss to the command and the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that the dedication and sacrifice of the deceased officers in the line of duty would always be remembered.
Two of the officers later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel are currently undergoing treatment. Bosso has directed that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured officers to aid their recovery.
On behalf of the officers and men of the Imo State Police Command, Bosso extended his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers.
The Commissioner also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured personnel and assured their families of the command's unwavering support during this difficult period. He reaffirmed that the welfare of officers and men remains a priority of the command.
The command has commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident. The Imo State Police Command urged members of the public to keep the families of the deceased and the injured personnel in their thoughts and prayers.
