The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of an item suspected to be a human skull, following an intelligence-led operation that involved a joint team of police operatives and personnel of the Amotekun Corps. The operation, which was conducted on Thursday, 9 July 2026, targeted one Shittu Isah of the Kajola Area in Ijio, who was apprehended with the alleged human skull in his possession.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a suspect in possession of the item, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed a coordinated operation that led to the successful arrest of Shittu Isah. The suspected human skull was recovered and secured as an exhibit, and the suspect was immediately taken into police custody.
During interrogation, Isah confessed to having exhumed the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio. He also admitted that he did not act alone, a disclosure that led to the arrest of one Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations. The recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to ascertain its nature, while investigators are working to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the offence, establish the motive behind the act, and determine whether other persons are connected to the crime.
The arrest of the two suspects is part of the Command's sustained efforts to combat crime and other unlawful activities across the state. The Oyo State Police Command has reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, preserving public peace, and ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice. The Command has also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of preventing and combating crime across Oyo State.
