A joint security operation involving the Oyo State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters has successfully rescued a couple abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Oke-Ogun area of the state, ending a five-day ordeal that began in the early hours of Saturday, July 5, 2026. The victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were rescued unhurt following a coordinated search-and-rescue mission ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately after the abduction was reported.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, the couple was abducted late on Saturday when about five armed men invaded Tiro Village in the Irawo area of Oke-Ogun, firing sporadically into the air before whisking the victims away to an unknown location. The incident triggered an immediate security response, with police operatives, Amotekun personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters mobilising to track down the abductors.

A crucial breakthrough came when security operatives recovered a Bajaj motorcycle, which had been earlier reported stolen, abandoned in a nearby bush. The police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that the recovery of the motorcycle, combined with the deployment of technological resources, enabled the joint security team to identify the kidnappers' hideout. Acting on the intelligence, the security team closed in on the location, but the suspects opened fire, leading to a fierce gun duel. However, taking advantage of the dense forest and difficult terrain, the suspects escaped into the bush with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims in the process. The rescued couple was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment. They were later discharged after doctors certified them to be in stable condition and have since been reunited with their family.

The Police Command has appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seeking unusual medical attention or presenting with suspected bullet wounds at hospitals, clinics, or other locations. The command noted that such information would assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police also commended the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members for their timely information and cooperation, which contributed to the successful rescue operation. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to rid Oyo State of criminal elements.
