The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that seven persons lost their lives while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road crash along the Bauchi-Maiduguri Highway on Saturday, 11 July 2026. The accident occurred at Kajutu village in Bauchi State, involving a commercial Galaxy Sharon bus with registration number KRF 198XA and a MAN diesel tipper truck without a registration number, according to a statement by the FRSC Bauchi Sector Command.

The crash happened at about 12:05 p.m. and was reported to the FRSC two minutes later, while rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 12:22 p.m. Preliminary investigations by the corps attributed the crash to traffic signal violation and dangerous driving on a rough section of the paved road. A total of 12 people were involved in the accident, comprising 10 adult males, one adult female and one male child. Of the number, seven adult males lost their lives, while five others—three adult males, one adult female and one male child—suffered injuries. The deceased were identified as Garba Babaji, Alkali Galadima, Aliyu Samanja, Abba Abbo, Amadu Guruza, Rabiu Baura and Ibrahim Gucho Officer, all of whom were indigenes of Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The FRSC rescue team evacuated the injured victims and the bodies of the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where the injured are receiving treatment and the deaths were confirmed. Items recovered from the scene included six Android phones, five keypad phones, ₦34,250 in cash, three caps, a travelling bag and a wallet.

Reacting to the tragedy, former Senator representing Bauchi Central, Isah Hamman Misau, expressed deep sorrow over the incident on his Facebook page, describing the accident as a painful loss to the people of Misau. He noted that the victims were young people and breadwinners whose contributions would be greatly missed and prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, and give their families and the people of Misau the strength to bear the irreparable loss. He also urged motorists and road users to strictly observe traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on the highways.

The latest tragedy occurred just days after two children of former Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, died in a separate road accident along the Bauchi-Azare road, renewing concerns over the increasing number of fatal crashes on the Bauchi-Maiduguri highway. The FRSC has reiterated its call for motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations to help prevent similar tragedies on the nation's roads.
