The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old former commercial motorcyclist, Onyechere Daniel Chinadu, after he allegedly excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in Uganda in a desperate attempt to smuggle the illicit substance into Nigeria. The suspect, who had worked as an okada rider in Lagos for 15 years, was arrested on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, upon his arrival from Uganda via Addis Ababa aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, by the agency's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, a thorough search of the suspect's backpack, which he had checked in, led to the discovery of 87 wraps of methamphetamine concealed within clothes. During interrogation, Chinadu claimed that a Uganda-based friend had recruited him into drug trafficking, and that he had ingested the pellets in Uganda before embarking on a planned journey to Madagascar to deliver the consignment. However, upon arrival in Madagascar, immigration authorities denied him entry. His sponsor, identified as Ozor Igo, subsequently rerouted his flight to Lagos, where NDLEA operatives intercepted him.

Babafemi disclosed that the suspect was unable to state the exact number of pellets he had ingested and was therefore placed under excretion observation for three days. Between the date of his arrest and Wednesday, July 8, he excreted an additional 13 pellets, bringing the total number to 100 wraps of methamphetamine with a gross weight of 1.715 kilograms. The agency said the suspect's attempt to secure a quick financial breakthrough through drug trafficking had ended in disappointment.

In a post shared on its official X handle, the NDLEA reflected on the suspect's ill-fated decision: "After 15 years of working as an okada rider in Lagos, this individual decides he needed to forcefully upgrade and change his social status by joining a transnational drug trafficking organisation. That dream has not only crumbled now but is ending in premium tears following his arrest at the Lagos airport by NDLEA officers after excreting a whopping 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in faraway Uganda." Babafemi reiterated the agency's commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and warned that anyone involved in such illicit activities would face the full weight of the law.
