Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 15 kidnapped victims after successfully repelling a terrorist attack in Marge community, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, in what military sources have described as another significant victory in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign across Nigeria's North-West region. The operation, conducted on Saturday, 11 July 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating the presence of armed terrorists carrying out criminal activities in the area, according to a post shared on Sunday, 12 July 2026, by crisis reporter Bakatsine via his X handle.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops mobilised to Marge, where they encountered the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Unable to withstand the troops' overwhelming assault and superior military firepower, the terrorists abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding bush. The successful operation was carried out without any casualties among the troops, underscoring the professionalism and effectiveness of the soldiers involved. All 15 rescued victims were safely reunited with their families shortly after the operation, bringing relief to their loved ones and the affected community.
The latest rescue operation came barely 24 hours after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA foiled another kidnapping attempt in Surimi, a border community between Kebbi and Sokoto states, rescuing four abducted victims during a similar intelligence-led operation on Friday, 10 July 2026. In that earlier operation, troops mobilised to the scene after reports indicated the movement of armed terrorists within Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area and confronted the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes and abandon their captives. No casualties were recorded among the troops in either operation, highlighting the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to intensify intelligence-driven operations across the North-West as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and kidnapping networks and restore security in vulnerable communities. The successful rescues are the latest in a series of offensives aimed at degrading criminal networks operating across parts of Kebbi and neighbouring north-western states, where security forces have intensified operations to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities. Residents have also been encouraged to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements.
