The Nigeria Police Force in Zamfara State has rescued two kidnap victims after intercepting a man who was allegedly transporting 10 jerrycans of petrol to bandits as ransom for the release of his father and brother.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine on Sunday, 12 July 2026. According to the post, the police operatives intercepted the man and seized the fuel before moving into the forest, confronting the kidnappers and safely rescuing both victims.
The rescue operation highlights the growing trend of bandits accepting fuel and other supplies as ransom, particularly in the North-West where petrol is scarce and expensive. By intercepting the fuel and using it to track the kidnappers, the police demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in combating kidnapping and banditry.
“Kudos to the Nigeria Police Force and other security personnel involved for their bravery and commitment in the fight against kidnapping and banditry,” Bakatsine wrote.
The Zamfara State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on banditry and kidnapping, with the Inspector-General of Police recently commending the command for its operational successes, including the recovery of stolen motorcycles, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and successful operations against armed bandits. The command has also stepped up surveillance and confidence-building patrols across the state to discourage ransom payments and secure the release of captives.
As of the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the rescue operation. However, the successful rescue serves as a reminder that with timely intelligence and decisive action, security forces can outmanoeuvre criminal networks and bring hope to families who have been torn apart by kidnapping.
