Today, the Ogun State Police Command received high praise for its swift intervention in rescuing 18 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were stranded late at night at a notorious kidnapping hotspot after their vehicle broke down, preventing what could have been a tragic incident. The rescue operation took place on 30 June 2026 when the corps members found themselves in a vulnerable position at a location widely feared for frequent kidnappings and other violent crimes.
In a letter of appreciation addressed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, the General Manager of Fresh FM Lagos, Taiwo Akinsola, popularly known as Omobabaolowo Woli ni Ilasamaja, commended the police command for responding promptly to the distress call. The corps members, who had become stranded after their vehicle developed a fault, reportedly contacted the police for help as fear and uncertainty mounted.
In response, CP Ojajuni immediately mobilised officers to the scene, where they secured the area, safely evacuated all 18 corps members to Ijebu-Ode, and arranged hotel accommodation for them until they could continue their journey safely. Akinsola described the response as prompt, professional and life-saving, noting that the intervention prevented what could have escalated into a national tragedy.
The letter stated that the courage, vigilance and professionalism displayed by the officers demonstrated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property, even under dangerous circumstances. Akinsola added that this act of service goes beyond duty and demonstrates the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of CP Ojajuni to protect lives and property, even in the most dangerous hours. He also praised the Divisional Police Officer and the patrol team involved in the operation, saying their decisive action had strengthened public confidence in the police.
The rescue has further highlighted the Ogun State Police Command's increasing emphasis on rapid emergency response and proactive policing under the leadership of CP Bode Ojajuni, whose administration has recently recorded several high-profile operational successes against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. The intervention has been hailed as an act that went beyond routine policing, demonstrating the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protect lives and property even in the most dangerous hours.
