The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the abduction of a farmer, Mr Owoade Mathew, and has launched an intensive joint security operation aimed at securing his safe rescue and apprehending those responsible for the criminal act. According to a press release issued on Monday, 13 July 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command received a distress report on Sunday, 12 July 2026, at about 9:50 a.m., from the Officer-in-Charge of Igbojaye Police Outlet that the victim, a resident of Igbojaye Community, had gone to his farm along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare Farm Road at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 11 July 2026, but failed to return home.
A search party organised by members of his family later recovered his Bajaj motorcycle at the farm in the early hours of Sunday. Shortly thereafter, the victim's mobile phone was used to contact his family, during which the caller informed them that he had been abducted, prompting the report to the Police. The Command wishes to clarify that, contrary to inaccurate reports circulating in some sections of the media, the victim was abducted while on his farm and not within the premises of any school. Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard the misleading reports and rely only on information disseminated through official channels of the Oyo State Police Command.
Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately directed the deployment of a coordinated joint rescue team comprising Police operatives, personnel of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters to the area. The team immediately commenced intensive combing of the surrounding forests to locate and rescue the victim. The operation has since been reinforced by the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams, who are working assiduously with other security stakeholders to ensure the victim's safe rescue and the arrest of the abductors.
The Commissioner of Police has assured the good people of Oyo State that the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the State of kidnapping and other violent crimes. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist ongoing security operations, assuring that every available operational and intelligence resource is being deployed to ensure a successful outcome. The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and will continue to work collaboratively with sister security agencies and community stakeholders to sustain peace and public safety across the State.
