Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded another significant victory in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in the North-West, neutralising two suspected terrorists and recovering a motorcycle and a Baofeng handheld radio during a successful operation in Mokurata, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, according to security sources.
The operation, which took place on Monday, 13 July 2026, was launched following credible intelligence on the activities of terrorists within the area. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops deployed to Mokurata to prevent the criminal elements from carrying out their planned attacks. On arrival, the troops made contact with the terrorists, who reportedly attempted to flee after encountering the superior firepower of the security forces. During the ensuing operation, two terrorists were neutralised, while one motorcycle and a Baofeng handheld radio used for communication were recovered from the scene.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of the sustained offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and deny criminal elements freedom of movement across the North-West. The troops have continued to maintain offensive operations in the area as efforts intensify to restore peace and enhance security for residents. The successful operation follows a series of coordinated efforts by the Joint Task Force North West, which has intensified its campaign against terrorist groups operating in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states.
The recovery of the Baofeng handheld radio is particularly significant, as such communication devices are often used by terrorist and bandit groups to coordinate attacks and evade security forces. By intercepting these items, troops have dealt a blow to the operational capacity of the criminal network in the area. Military sources have confirmed that the recovered items are being examined for further intelligence that could lead to the apprehension of other members of the terrorist network.
The operation has been welcomed by residents of Mokurata and surrounding communities, who have endured repeated attacks and threats from armed groups. The troops' swift response and decisive action have reinforced public confidence in the military's commitment to protecting lives and property. As the troops continue their clearance operations, the people of Danko/Wasagu and neighbouring local government areas are hopeful that the sustained offensive will bring lasting peace to the region.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, launched in 2025, has been at the forefront of Nigeria's counter-terrorism efforts in the North-West, targeting terrorist enclaves, dismantling illegal arms factories, and rescuing kidnapped victims. The operation has recorded significant successes in recent weeks, including the rescue of 19 kidnap victims in two separate operations within 48 hours, and the foiling of terrorist attacks in Marge and Surimi communities. The neutralisation of two terrorists in Mokurata adds to the growing list of operational successes, demonstrating the military's determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action and restore peace across the North-West.
