The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping with the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the successful rescue of a five-year-old girl, Miss Fikayo Gbemiga, who was abducted from her residence in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan on July 3, 2026. Operatives of the Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad leveraged technology and other investigative tools to identify the suspects' hideout, rescue the victim unhurt, take her for immediate medical care, and arrest the culprits. The operation, which culminated in the arrest of the principal suspects on July 11, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., marked a significant victory in the state's ongoing campaign against violent crime.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo, identified as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25, unlawfully gained access to the complainant's residence, abducted the five-year-old victim, and subsequently demanded a ransom of ₦10 million for her release. The suspects, believed to be brothers, had earlier received a ransom payment of ₦1 million at Gbongan, Osun State, on July 8, 2026, as part of negotiations with the victim's family. Acting on credible intelligence generated during the course of the investigation, operatives stormed the suspects' hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, where the victim was rescued unhurt at about 10:35 p.m., before the suspects could relocate the child or evade justice.
The Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad conducted a sustained intelligence-led investigation, painstakingly deploying technological and other investigative tools to trace and identify the suspects. The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators, while efforts are ongoing to recover the ransom already collected and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate who remain at large. The Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the professionalism, resilience, and dedication of the operatives whose painstaking investigation led to the successful rescue of the child and the arrest of the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid Oyo State of kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and robust collaboration with members of the public. The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely, credible and actionable information to the Police, assuring them that every useful intelligence will be treated with utmost confidentiality and acted upon promptly.
The arrest of the two suspected kidnappers and the safe rescue of the five-year-old victim are part of the Oyo State Police Command's continuing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state. Residents who witness suspicious activities or require emergency assistance have been encouraged to contact the Oyo State Call Response Center toll-free line on 615 or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413. The successful operation has brought relief to the family of the rescued child and serves as a warning to criminals that the Command will continue to leverage technology, intelligence, and community partnerships to track them down, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.
