The husband of Nollywood actress Nkiru Sylvanus, Sammy Riches, has issued a stern warning to social media users, threatening legal action against anyone spreading what he described as derogatory and misleading claims about his marriage and his wife's health. The warning follows the circulation of a viral video and photographs of the actress on a movie set, which sparked a wave of online speculation, with some users questioning her appearance and suggesting that marriage had negatively altered her looks. In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Riches broke his silence, dismissing the speculation as baseless and insisting that the images do not reflect his wife's actual appearance.
The controversy began when a clip of Sylvanus on a film set began circulating widely on social media, drawing a flurry of uncomplimentary comments. Some users went further, insinuating that the actress's appearance was a sign of distress or trouble within her marriage. One X user wrote, “What’s really going on with some of our Nollywood celebrities. What happened to our favourite Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus? Just 2 years after marriage, and she is now like this”. Reacting to the uproar, Riches stated that he could overlook the video itself and the negative comments surrounding it. However, he drew a hard line at narratives that misrepresent his marriage.
"A picture and a video which does not represent what my wife looks like have been circulating online currently, and I choose to overlook all that and all the comments that have been made," he said in his Instagram video. "But what I will not tolerate is someone making a derogatory post or a misleading caption about my marriage. I will not tolerate that. I will take legal action. Be warned". The businessman stressed that the viral images were taken on a film set and accused mischief makers of deliberately misleading the public by presenting them out of context. He emphasized that the photo does not show what his wife currently looks like.
The couple, who married in January 2023, have largely kept their private life away from the public eye. In a tribute posted on his Instagram earlier this year to mark their first wedding anniversary, Riches praised the actress as a “hard-working woman” and a “home builder” who prioritises faith. The development has sparked mixed reactions online, with many fans rallying behind the couple and condemning the spread of unverified rumours about celebrities' personal lives. Some praised Riches for stepping up to defend his wife rather than staying silent. Others urged social media users to distinguish between movie roles and real life, noting that actors often appear transformed for characters they portray on screen.
