The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he is ready to resign from his position if claims he made about completed road projects in Abuja are proven to be false.
Wike made the statement on Friday, 18 July 2026, while responding to criticism over his administration’s infrastructure achievements in the nation’s capital. The former Rivers State governor challenged his critics to verify the projects executed under his leadership and provide evidence if his claims were inaccurate.
The minister said he had nothing to hide regarding the road projects completed by the FCT Administration, insisting that his record in infrastructure development could be independently assessed. He maintained that accountability remained important in public service and that he would accept responsibility if it was established that he misrepresented facts.
“I will resign as minister if my claims on completed roads are false,” Wike said, according to remarks made during the defence of his administration’s performance.
Since assuming office as FCT minister in August 2023, Wike has prioritised road rehabilitation, urban renewal projects and improvements to infrastructure across Abuja and satellite communities. His administration has highlighted several completed and ongoing road projects as part of efforts to address years of infrastructure deficits in the capital.
However, some opposition figures and critics have questioned aspects of the minister’s claims, demanding greater transparency on project costs, timelines and the actual level of completion of some infrastructure works.
Wike has repeatedly defended the FCT Administration’s approach, arguing that residents of Abuja are already experiencing visible changes through improved roads, street lighting and renewed public facilities. He has also urged critics to focus on evidence rather than political disagreements.
The minister’s latest comments come amid continued public debate over government performance, accountability and the delivery of infrastructure projects under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Political analysts say Wike’s resignation challenge reflects his confidence in the projects carried out under his leadership, but they note that independent verification of government claims remains essential in ensuring transparency and public trust.
