The African Action Congress, Kogi State Chapter, has disowned a campaign poster circulating on social media, declaring that the individual presented as the party's candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District was neither recognised nor endorsed by the party. In a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, 2026, the party accused those behind the poster of attempting to mislead the public and undermine its internal democratic process, insisting that it had not produced any officially recognised senatorial candidate for Kogi West.
The party warned members of the public against accepting the campaign material as authentic and threatened legal action against those responsible for producing and circulating it. "We wish to categorically state that the individual featured in the poster is not known to the party as a senatorial candidate, nor has the party at the state or local government level authorized, endorsed, or ratified the publication of such material," the statement read.
The AAC stressed that it remains committed to transparency, due process and internal democracy, and that any official nomination would only be announced through authorised party channels. "At present, AAC has no officially recognized senatorial candidate for Kogi West. Therefore, any attempt by any individual or group to parade themselves as such constitutes a gross misrepresentation of the party and a deliberate effort to mislead members of the public," the party stated.
The party alleged that the circulation of the poster was a calculated attempt to create confusion among party members and the electorate. "We strongly condemn this deceptive act and view it as a calculated attempt by disgruntled elements to create confusion, misinform the electorate, and undermine the integrity of our party's democratic processes," it stated. The AAC urged the public and its supporters to ignore the poster and any related campaign materials.
The party also warned that it would take legal action against anyone found using its name, logo or identity without authorisation. "Should those responsible for this unauthorised use of the party's name, logo, and identity continue to circulate false information or present themselves as representatives or candidates of the party, AAC will not hesitate to pursue all available legal remedies, including civil and criminal actions, against every individual involved in the production, publication, sponsorship, and dissemination of such misleading materials," the statement added.
The AAC maintained that "political participation must be guided by integrity and respect for the law," adding that the party "will vigorously defend its reputation against impersonation, misrepresentation, and any attempt to fraudulently appropriate the identity of the party for personal or political gain". The development comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, where the Kogi West senatorial seat remains a key battleground. The party's firm stance against the fake posters underscores its determination to protect its brand and internal democratic processes from what it described as deliberate misrepresentation by disgruntled elements seeking to exploit its name for personal or political gain.
