The Nigerian Bar Association has announced the full results of its 2026 national elections, with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, emerging as the 33rd President of the association. The election, conducted electronically over 24 hours, recorded a total of 26,184 votes cast out of 82,172 registered voters, representing a 31.86 per cent turnout.
Badejo-Okusanya, the only female candidate in the presidential race, polled 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, to defeat Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, who secured 7,934 votes, representing 30.39 per cent, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, who garnered 5,855 votes, representing 22.43 per cent. With her victory, she becomes the second woman to lead the NBA, following Priscilla Kuye who served from 1991 to 1992.
In the race for First Vice President, Oghenero Okoro emerged victorious with 11,024 votes, representing 44.85 per cent, defeating Luqman Adekunle Laoye who polled 7,044 votes, representing 28.66 per cent, and Obajaja Onimisi Stephen who secured 6,511 votes, representing 26.49 per cent. The position of Second Vice President was won unopposed by Egya Nuhu John, who secured 18,496 votes, while the Third Vice President position was also won unopposed by Pepple Iniobong Irene, who garnered 19,200 votes.
The contest for General Secretary saw Afam O. Okeke emerge as the winner with 8,478 votes, representing 33.58 per cent, defeating five other candidates. Dr Rapulu Ernest Nduka came second with 6,188 votes, representing 24.51 per cent, while Chidi Ezenwafor polled 4,560 votes, representing 18.06 per cent. Okey Leo Ohagba secured 4,100 votes, representing 16.24 per cent, Nnaebuka Onyebuchi Nwaeze polled 1,147 votes, representing 4.54 per cent, and Barth Okoye-Aniche garnered 772 votes, representing 3.06 per cent.
For the position of Assistant General Secretary, Aghogho Gladys Okpomor won with 14,312 votes, representing 56.76 per cent, defeating Osato Uwagboe who polled 5,003 votes, representing 19.84 per cent, Tijjani Magaji who secured 3,282 votes, representing 13.02 per cent, Benjamin Emeka Enyiagu who garnered 1,954 votes, representing 7.75 per cent, and Chiduabo Prince Henry Mamah who polled 663 votes, representing 2.63 per cent.
The position of Treasurer was won unopposed by Esther Ifeoma Jimoh, who secured 21,908 votes. For Welfare Secretary, Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam emerged victorious with 14,911 votes, representing 60.43 per cent, defeating Sir Oaikhena Osagie who polled 5,187 votes, representing 21.02 per cent, Akinwunmi Laleye who secured 2,234 votes, representing 9.05 per cent, Chiwendu Ugochukwu who garnered 1,202 votes, representing 4.87 per cent, and Ernest Ezindu Uwanaka who polled 1,140 votes, representing 4.62 per cent.
In the contest for Publicity Secretary, Dr Prince I. Azubuike won with 14,686 votes, representing 61.95 per cent, defeating Lawrence Shegun Ayewa who polled 9,021 votes, representing 38.05 per cent. For Assistant Publicity Secretary, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad emerged as the winner with 10,094 votes, representing 40.83 per cent, defeating Uwomano Anthony Junior Aki who polled 6,108 votes, representing 24.71 per cent, Meti Monday Ukpeh who secured 4,643 votes, representing 18.78 per cent, and Lukman Oladimeji Jaiyeola who garnered 3,877 votes, representing 15.68 per cent.
The Eastern Zone Representative position was won by Chidi Betsy Nnaji with 10,497 votes, representing 17.32 per cent, defeating eight other candidates. Daniel Kip came second with 8,121 votes, representing 13.40 per cent, while Jane Omonor Apollos-James polled 8,079 votes, representing 13.33 per cent. Dr Ehujuo Kingsley Chukwunonso secured 7,811 votes, representing 12.89 per cent, Assam Akpan Assam polled 7,610 votes, representing 12.56 per cent, Dr Celestine Nwaokoma Nwankwo garnered 7,280 votes, representing 12.01 per cent, Joy Obianuju Nnani secured 6,519 votes, representing 10.76 per cent, and Arinze Celestine Chukwu polled 4,675 votes, representing 7.72 per cent.
For the Western Zone Representative, Rotimi Komolafe won with 14,816 votes, representing 43.17 per cent, defeating Precious Ndidi Nwadimuya who polled 10,031 votes, representing 29.23 per cent, and Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun who secured 9,476 votes, representing 27.61 per cent. The Northern Zone Representative position was won by Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim with 13,327 votes, representing 22.91 per cent, defeating Friday O. Enejor who polled 10,442 votes, representing 17.95 per cent, Bulus Y. Atsen who secured 9,086 votes, representing 15.62 per cent, Michael O. Olorunmola who polled 6,840 votes, representing 11.76 per cent, Kadir Temim who secured 6,806 votes, representing 11.70 per cent, Onimisi Friday Umar who polled 6,741 votes, representing 11.59 per cent, and Ledak D. Dafer who secured 4,933 votes, representing 8.48 per cent.
The election was conducted by the Electoral Committee of the NBA, with results announced on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja. The newly elected officers will serve a two-year tenure from 2026 to 2028.
