The Idanre Highlanders Club has issued a passionate appeal to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, urging him to urgently address what it described as the deplorable state of road infrastructure and the inequitable distribution of government projects in Idanre Local Government Area. In a reminder letter addressed to the governor and dated July 19, 2026, the group lamented that despite an earlier petition submitted on May 13, 2026, the state government had yet to respond to concerns over the economic, security, infrastructural and social challenges facing the council area.
The club specifically identified poor road infrastructure and unequal distribution of government projects as major issues affecting development in the local government, warning that the situation has continued to worsen for residents. According to the group, priority should be given to the reconstruction of the Owena–Atosin–Alade–Odode Road, the Gbalegi–Technical College–Akure Road, and the completion of the Akure–Idanre Road dualisation project. The letter also accused the state government of failing to ensure equity in the distribution of development projects and appointments, calling for greater reinvestment of internally generated revenue in Idanre as well as a review of tax policies affecting residents.
The earlier correspondence highlighted eight critical areas requiring urgent intervention, including road infrastructure, security, tourism development, electricity supply, education, youth empowerment, the Idanre–Akure boundary dispute, equitable distribution of government projects and the installation of a substantive Owa of Idanre. On security, the club urged the government to strengthen the Amotekun Corps, forest guards and other local security outfits operating in Idanre to tackle growing security threats. It also called for the revival of the Esegbeke Tourist Attraction through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement where necessary, alongside the completion of the abandoned golf course project at Atosin.
The organisation further appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to facilitate the appointment of a new Owa of Idanre, urging the government to direct the Regency Council to conclude the selection process before August 30, 2026. The letter, signed by the club's President, Mr. Abiodun Akindolire; Secretary, Temitope Oluseyi Akinfotire; and former President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Ralph Afolabi Akinfeleye, expressed the people's growing concern over years of neglect.
"Your Excellency, we understand the enormous demands on your administration. However, the situation in Idanre continues to deteriorate and our people are looking up to your government for hope and decisive action," the letter read. The group added, "We therefore humbly appeal for your kind consideration and prompt intervention on these matters. We remain available for any meeting, clarification, or provision of further documentation at your convenience. We have implicit confidence in your commitment to equitable development across Ondo State".
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government had not issued an official response to the group's demands. The Idanre Highlanders Club has made it clear that the people of Idanre are watching and waiting for action.
