An indigenous resident of Ogbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and his child have regained their freedom after spending five weeks in captivity following their abduction by armed bandits along the Ogbe–Koro Road. The victims were released on Sunday, July 19, 2026, according to pictures obtained by journalists confirming their release.

The father and child were kidnapped on June 15, 2026, near the "Welcome to Ogbe" signboard along the Ogbe–Koro Road, a route that has become notorious for kidnappings and other security incidents in the area. Local sources familiar with the incident confirmed the abduction at the time, noting that the attack was one of several security breaches recorded in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the release of the victims remain unclear. It is not known whether a ransom was paid or what circumstances led to their freedom. Efforts to obtain further information from the Kogi State Police Command and local authorities were unsuccessful.

The abduction was one of several security incidents recorded in the Ogbe area and other parts of Kogi West, highlighting the persistent security challenges affecting communities in Yagba West and other parts of Kogi West. Residents have continued to call on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and improve security across the region.

The release of the father and child brings a measure of relief to their family and the Ogbe community, which had been in anguish since the abduction. However, the incident has once again underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect residents and travellers along the Ogbe–Koro Road and other vulnerable routes in the state. The Kogi State Government and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the release or provide details on the circumstances surrounding the victims' freedom.
