Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have destroyed a suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorist hideout and recovered arms during a clearance operation in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation was conducted on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists around the Layi general area.
According to reports, soldiers from the 145 Battalion (Mechanised), led by their Commanding Officer, mobilised to the location where the terrorists, upon sighting the advancing troops, fled in disarray. The troops subsequently overran and destroyed the terrorist hideout before exploiting the area, leading to the recovery of one pump-action rifle and three AK-47 magazines abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.
As part of the operation, the troops also projected force to Mallamti Ganyawa village but made no contact with the terrorists. The operation was completed without casualties, and the troops returned safely to base at about 2:45 p.m. Military sources described the general security situation in the area as relatively calm but unpredictable, adding that troops remain on high alert while sustaining offensive operations against terrorist elements across the theatre.
The clearance operation in Gubio Local Government Area is part of the military's sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts and deny insurgents freedom of action in the North-East. The recovery of arms and ammunition from the fleeing terrorists underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist activities and preventing attacks on civilian communities.
