The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Abubakar Musa, in connection with the alleged killing of a 30-year-old man, Nathaniel Yusuf, following a violent assault in the Damilu area of Yola North Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday, July 20, 2026, by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje. According to the police, the incident came to light after Grace Yusuf, sister of the deceased, reported the attack to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kofare, stating that her brother had been violently assaulted by the suspect and was in critical condition.
Police operatives responded swiftly to the distress call, raced to the scene, rescued the injured victim, and rushed him to the Specialist Hospital in Jimeta for emergency medical treatment. The suspect was simultaneously apprehended at the scene of the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained devastating injuries, including fractures to both legs, a broken right hand, and serious head injuries after he was allegedly beaten with a stick during the attack.
Despite the determined efforts of medical personnel to save his life, Nathaniel Yusuf later died from the injuries he sustained. His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for an autopsy as investigations continue to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Following the tragic development, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, Kabiru Umar Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola to immediately take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation aimed at ensuring that justice is served. The police commissioner also ordered the diligent prosecution of the suspect in accordance with the provisions of the law should the ongoing investigation establish criminal liability.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Adamawa State and assured residents that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice. The command further appealed to members of the public to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and continue to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime and ensuring public safety. The suspect, Abubakar Musa, remains in police custody as investigations continue.
