The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has issued a firm denial of media reports suggesting that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, is under investigation for alleged visa racketeering. In a statement released on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the anti-graft agency clarified that its ongoing investigations into visa fraud are limited to certain junior officers of the service and do not extend to the Immigration CG.
The EFCC said it was aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service. The Commission wished to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG. According to the EFCC, there are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court, and further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future. However, the Commission stressed that the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.
The EFCC also took the opportunity to urge the media to always seek clarifications on the activities of the Commission to avoid misrepresentation of facts. The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the visa racketeering allegations, which have raised concerns about corruption and abuse of office within the Nigeria Immigration Service. The EFCC's statement serves to allay any speculation about the involvement of the service's top leadership while reaffirming the Commission's commitment to investigating and prosecuting cases of financial crimes and corruption within government agencies.
