Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has finally broken his silence on the reported fallout with Nigerian music superstar Davido, putting an end to months of speculation among fans over the true state of their relationship. In a viral video circulating online, VDM claimed that his once-cordial relationship with the singer hit a rough patch after he declined an alleged N50 million offer to campaign for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who happens to be Davido's uncle.
Speaking in Pidgin English, VDM recounted the alleged approach from Davido's camp, saying, "Davido and his crew offered me money, when they call me say make I come meet the uncle governor, say I go collect N50 million. Ask wetin I tell them. A lot of people will be happy, you no wetin be N50 million? I bounce am. Ask them". The activist suggested that the full story behind his rift with the award-winning singer remains largely unknown to the public, adding that what plays out in the media is only a fraction of the real events.
VDM also revisited their last known interaction, which he said revolved around a $5,000 pledge Davido had made to a young man in Ghana. According to VDM, the payment was delayed, leading to backlash from social media users who accused him of using the situation to chase clout. "You see this media, what you don't know is bigger than you. The last time me and Davido even talk na when that issue of that boy wey he said he go give 5,000 dollars for Ghana. I think he forgot, and people were insulting me say you talk say Davido don give the boy money. I don't know he forgot or maybe he was busy. So, I sent to him in his DM, how far, make them pay this boy because people were insulting me thinking that we used the thing for clout. From there they paid the guy," he explained.
The pair had previously enjoyed a warm relationship, with Davido publicly rallying support for VDM's release when he was controversially detained by the EFCC in May 2025. However, in recent months, fans have been left guessing over what went wrong between them, as they are no longer seen together publicly. VDM did not provide any evidence to support his claim about the alleged N50 million offer, while Davido has yet to publicly respond to the allegations. However, the singer appeared to break his silence on Monday, July 20, 2026, in a manner that left fans guessing. Rather than directly address VDM's claims, Davido posted a video featuring a white man dancing to his newly released song with No11, 'Gimme Dat Thing', shortly after VDM's allegations began circulating online.
In a separate revelation, VDM also addressed popular beliefs that Davido contributed to his growth and NGO, making a U-turn on his earlier claim and stating that the long-standing public perception was for entertainment purposes. While denying ever benefiting a dime from Davido, the influencer claimed that the singer did not sponsor his travel or cover his hotel accommodation in Lagos, and that he never donated to his NGO. "Any time wey I talk something around Davido and maybe some people wey dey around Davido record, people go say, 'After all what Davido has done for you. Davido flew you to Lagos, Davido has contributed to your NGO,' and all those type of things. Well, today make I just address una. You see that time I went to Lagos to meet Davido, na me pay for my flight ticket oo, na me pay for the hotel wey I lodge, but guess what, we just leave am like that for entertainment purposes," he said.
VDM's confession came after online speculation surrounding his fallout with Davido. As of the time of filing this report, Davido had not issued a direct response to the allegations, leaving fans and followers to interpret his cryptic social media activity as they await further developments in the unfolding saga.
