Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a significant blow to terrorist logistics networks in Kebbi State, arresting six suspected suppliers and intercepting 10 brand-new Honda motorcycles allegedly destined for a notorious terrorist commander. The operation, conducted on Monday, July 20, 2026, was part of ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the North-West region.
According to security sources, troops of Sector 2 intercepted a white commercial bus along the Biu–Kangiwa axis in Arewa Local Government Area, where they arrested two suspects identified as 35-year-old Salisu Mohammad and 36-year-old Bashir Musa. The suspects were found transporting 10 brand-new Honda motorcycles packaged in cartons inside the commercial bus. Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycles were allegedly destined for a suspected terrorist kingpin identified as Mallam Gehowa, who is believed to be operating around the Amogoro axis.
Acting on intelligence gathered from the initial arrests, troops immediately launched a follow-up operation, leading to the arrest of four additional suspects who were reportedly sent by the terrorist group to receive the motorcycles. In total, six individuals suspected of playing roles in the logistics network were taken into custody for further questioning. The motorcycles, which had been strategically concealed inside cardboard cartons in an apparent attempt to evade detection, were seized during the operation.
Military authorities described the operation as successful, noting that it was executed without incident. All six suspects, the recovered motorcycles, and the commercial bus used to transport the consignment have been handed over to the Kebbi State Command of the Department of State Services for further investigation and necessary action.
Security analysts note that motorcycles remain a critical asset for terrorist and bandit groups operating across parts of northwestern Nigeria, where they are often used for rapid movement, surveillance, and launching attacks on vulnerable communities. The latest interception is being viewed as a major setback for the criminal network, as it denies the group valuable mobility and operational capacity.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which has intensified counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations across the Northwest in recent months, has continued to target not only armed fighters but also the networks that provide logistics, funding, transportation, and other forms of support to criminal elements. The successful operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to weaken terrorist capabilities, protect communities, and restore lasting peace and security across affected regions.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the additional suspects, while investigations are expected to continue to uncover other members of the logistics network and their possible links to terrorist activities in the region.
