A tragic road accident on Monday claimed the lives of two people, a man and a woman, after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a Dongfeng pickup truck at Koto Ajala, inbound Owode, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to excessive speed and loss of control by the motorcyclist.
According to TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident occurred at approximately 10:32 a.m. on July 20, 2026. Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcycle rider lost control while descending the Koto Ajala axis outbound Owode and veered into the path of the oncoming pickup truck. The motorcycle, bearing registration number FFF 689 HA, rammed into the Dongfeng pickup with registration number GGE 200 KP. Both occupants of the motorcycle died at the scene, while no other injuries were recorded. The victims were identified only as a male rider and his female passenger.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the bodies to the Fakoya Hospital morgue in Sagamu. The damaged motorcycle and pickup truck were taken to a local police station for further investigation. Although traffic was partially disrupted immediately after the crash, normal movement was restored following traffic control by TRACE and FRSC personnel.
The incident adds to a growing number of fatal road crashes recorded across Ogun State in recent weeks, renewing concerns over reckless driving, speeding, and poor compliance with traffic regulations on major highways. Road safety authorities have repeatedly warned motorists, particularly commercial drivers and motorcyclists, against excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, and other risky behaviours.
In a separate accident on the same day, the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command confirmed a fatal crash at Leme along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway. That incident involved a black Lexus car and a black TVS motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two adult males. The crash was attributed to speed violation, and the bodies were deposited at the State Hospital Ijaye Mortuary.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists and motorcyclists to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours. He emphasized that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, reiterating the command's commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services.
