The Nigerian Army has issued an urgent public warning against a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media and other online platforms, which fraudulently invites applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission Course 50/2027. In a statement released on Monday, July 20, 2026, by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the military authority categorically declared that the advertisement is false, fraudulent, and did not emanate from the Nigerian Army. The Army urged the public to disregard the fake advertisement and warned prospective applicants not to apply through, patronise, or make any payments to any individual, group, or website claiming to conduct recruitment on its behalf.
The Nigerian Army stressed that all its recruitment and commissioning exercises are strictly free, transparent, and merit-based, with official announcements made only through national newspapers, the Army's verified social media platforms, and other recognised official communication channels. According to the statement, no form is sold, and no person or agent is authorised to facilitate recruitment or demand payment at any stage of the process. "Those behind this criminal act are advised to desist immediately. Security agencies have been activated to identify, arrest and prosecute all individuals involved in producing, circulating or using the fake advertisement to defraud innocent Nigerians. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law," the statement read.
The Army's warning comes amid a growing trend of fraudulent recruitment schemes targeting unsuspecting Nigerians seeking employment or military careers. Scammers often exploit the high demand for military enlistment by creating fake websites, soliciting payments for application forms, and making false promises of securing spots in training courses. The Nigerian Army, however, has consistently maintained that its recruitment processes are free of charge and that it does not solicit money from applicants at any stage.
The military advised members of the public to verify all recruitment information through official Nigerian Army channels only and to report any suspicious recruitment activities immediately to the nearest military formation or security agency. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its recruitment process and warned that anyone found culpable in the production or circulation of the fake advertisement would face prosecution.
