Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province extortion mission in Yobe State, killing one terrorist and recovering weapons, ammunition, and logistics items in a decisive blow against the insurgents' illicit funding networks. The operation, conducted by troops of Sector 2 in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, disrupted an alleged attempt by the terrorists to collect illegal levies from residents, cutting off one of their suspected sources of funding. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, by the Acting Military Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops acted on credible and actionable intelligence regarding the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP operatives on a levy collection mission from local communities.
Troops from Forward Operating Base Bukarti swiftly deployed on an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026, where they made contact with the terrorists and immediately engaged them with overwhelming and superior firepower. During the ensuing firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully engaged and immobilised, while its driver was neutralised. Unable to withstand the troops' combat superiority, four other terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds. A follow-up exploitation operation conducted on July 20, 2026, along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle and several items believed to have been used in supporting terrorist operations.
Items recovered included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools assessed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment activities. The military said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist activities and cutting off their illicit sources of revenue. Captain Goni stated that the mission further degraded Boko Haram and ISWAP operational capabilities by denying the insurgents access to funds generated through the extortion of vulnerable communities. The operation dealt another significant blow to the terrorist group's logistics and funding network by preventing the collection of illegal levies from local communities, underscoring the sustained offensive posture of Operation HADIN KAI in dismantling illicit revenue networks and denying terrorists freedom of action across the North-East theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups across the North-East, stressing that it would continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations in synergy with other security agencies and with the continued support of law-abiding citizens until terrorism is decisively defeated and enduring peace, security, and stability are fully restored across the region.
