The University of Lagos has officially announced that its 2026/2027 Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Aptitude Test will hold from Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, 2026, while issuing a stern warning to candidates against examination malpractice and any violation of the institution's strict guidelines. In a statement released on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the university's Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe, declared that the online aptitude test would be conducted under remotely proctored examination conditions, and that candidates must strictly comply with all instructions or risk disqualification or other disciplinary sanctions. The warning comes as the university prepares to screen a massive pool of applicants, with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board disclosing that 78,240 candidates applied to UNILAG for admission in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, though details of those who scored 200 and above have not been made public.
The university outlined a comprehensive set of 23 instructions that candidates must adhere to, describing the Post-UTME as a competitive online examination conducted under remotely proctored conditions. According to the guidelines, candidates must use only a laptop computer equipped with an in-built webcam and microphone, while mobile phones, tablets, external webcams, virtual cameras, HDMI-connected displays, headphones, earbuds, smart glasses, and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited. Candidates are also required to remain alone in a quiet, well-lit environment throughout the 30-minute examination, with no other person permitted within the examination area. Speaking, reading questions aloud, or allowing unauthorised persons into the examination area would constitute misconduct and could result in disqualification. The registrar also warned that candidates must be appropriately dressed to permit proper visual identification throughout the examination, and that all examination activities, including audio and video recordings, would be monitored and recorded for examination integrity, verification, and investigation purposes.
The university stressed that candidates are solely responsible for ensuring a reliable and stable internet connection and uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the examination, noting that UNILAG would not be liable for disruptions caused by power outages, network failures, or other technical issues beyond its control. Candidates experiencing technical difficulties are advised to immediately use the "Need Help?" feature on the examination platform and to exhaust all prescribed troubleshooting procedures before submitting a complaint. The registrar also emphasised that participation in the mandatory mock examination, which will be available until July 25, is compulsory for all candidates. The mock examination is designed to test device compatibility, internet connectivity, webcam functionality, and overall system readiness, and candidates are urged to use the same laptop, internet connection, and examination environment for both the mock and the actual test. The Safe Examination Browser supports only Windows 10 or later and macOS Ventura or later operating systems.
The university also warned candidates against patronising unauthorised individuals, cybercafés, business centres, or Computer-Based Test centres claiming affiliation with UNILAG, stressing that the aptitude test would be conducted strictly online from locations chosen by candidates. The only approved fee for the screening exercise is ₦5,500, comprising ₦2,000 for the application and ₦3,500 for administrative fees. Candidates are advised to obtain information only through the university's official website and verified communication channels. The registrar reiterated that fraud, impersonation, unauthorised assistance, or any form of examination malpractice could lead to the cancellation of applications or examination results, and that all decisions relating to the conduct and outcome of the Post-UTME Aptitude Test would be final and binding.
The Post-UTME screening is open to candidates who made the University of Lagos their first choice in the 2026/2027 UTME and scored 200 and above, and who possess five credit passes at one sitting in relevant O-level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Candidates who will not be at least 16 years of age by September 30, 2026, are not eligible and need not apply, and those who do not participate in the online aptitude test will not be considered for admission. The university also warned that it has zero tolerance for drug abuse, and will withdraw the admission of any student who tests positive for drug use, whether before or after registration. As the 2026/2027 admission cycle intensifies, UNILAG's firm stance on examination integrity signals a zero-tolerance approach to malpractice, as thousands of candidates compete for limited spaces in one of Nigeria's most sought-after universities.
