Belgrade, Serbia — President of the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), Olabisi Temitope Joseph, has been elected President of the International School Sport Federation (ISF) Africa, becoming the first African woman to occupy the position in the organisation's history.
Joseph was elected during the 2026 ISF General Assembly held in Belgrade, Serbia, where delegates from member countries gathered to elect new leaders for the continental and global school sports body.
Her emergence marks a significant milestone for Nigeria and Africa, strengthening the country's presence in international sports administration while advancing women's representation in leadership positions within global sports organisations.
The Secretary-General of the Nigeria School Sport Federation, Dr. Oba Funsho Usman, described the achievement as a major victory for Nigeria, noting that it reflects the confidence reposed in Joseph's leadership and commitment to the development of school sports.
Joseph has been widely recognised for her contributions to school sports development in Nigeria and across Africa. During her tenure as NSSF President, she has championed initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots sports, discovering young talents and increasing Nigeria's participation in international school sporting events.
Her election builds on previous achievements within the International School Sport Federation. In 2022, she became the first Nigerian and the first African woman elected into the Executive Committee of the federation. She was also appointed to the ISF Management Committee, further expanding Nigeria's influence in the organisation.
As President of ISF Africa, Joseph is expected to provide strategic leadership for school sports across the continent by promoting youth participation, strengthening cooperation among member countries and encouraging policies that support talent development through education and sports.
The International School Sport Federation is the global governing body for school sports and works with member nations to organise international competitions, educational programmes and sporting exchanges for students. It is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and plays a key role in developing school sports worldwide.
