The air component of Operation Hadin Kai has destroyed a suspected terrorist hideout in Borno State during a precision air strike, killing insurgents believed to be operating from the location.
The operation was carried out on Monday, July 20, 2026, following intelligence gathered by military surveillance platforms that identified suspicious activities around a suspected terrorist position in the Lake Chad area of Borno State.
Security sources said the operation followed a series of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions that confirmed the presence of suspected insurgents at the location. After the target was verified, military aircraft were deployed to conduct the strike.
The air operation successfully hit the identified hideout, destroying the structure and neutralising some of the insurgents believed to be inside at the time of the attack. The exact number of casualties was not immediately disclosed by military authorities.
The strike was conducted as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations under Operation Hadin Kai, the military campaign established to combat Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters operating in Nigeria’s North-East region.
Borno State has remained at the centre of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism for more than a decade, with insurgent groups continuing to launch attacks, maintain hideouts, and move through difficult terrains, especially around the Lake Chad Basin.
The Nigerian military has increasingly relied on intelligence-led air operations to target terrorist camps, logistics bases, and gathering points while supporting ground troops involved in counter-terrorism missions.
The latest strike comes amid continued efforts by security forces to weaken insurgent networks and disrupt their ability to plan attacks against civilians, military personnel, and communities affected by years of insecurity.
Military authorities have maintained that air operations are carefully planned using intelligence information to identify legitimate targets and reduce risks to civilians. However, due to the remote nature of many operational areas, independent confirmation of casualty figures and damage assessments can be difficult.
The Nigerian Air Force, alongside other components of Operation Hadin Kai, is expected to continue surveillance and offensive operations across Borno State and neighbouring areas as security agencies work to contain terrorist activities in the region.
Communities affected by the insurgency have continued to call for sustained military presence, improved security measures, and support for the restoration of normal social and economic activities after years of disruption.
The military has not released further details on the identities of the insurgents affected in the operation or whether additional ground operations will follow the air strike.
