The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the condition of the state’s health and education sectors, accusing the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of failing to adequately address challenges affecting public services.
The party, in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as declining standards in hospitals and schools across the state. It called on the government to take urgent steps to improve service delivery and restore confidence in critical sectors.
The APC’s criticism followed public reactions to concerns raised over the state of some healthcare facilities, including allegations of shortages of personnel, equipment gaps, and challenges affecting effective medical services.
The opposition party argued that despite government claims of achievements in infrastructure and development, many residents continued to experience difficulties accessing quality healthcare and education.
According to the APC, some public hospitals require more attention in areas such as medical equipment, staffing, and general maintenance. The party also alleged that some public schools were facing challenges including inadequate learning facilities, infrastructure deficiencies, and shortage of teachers.
The party’s spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, said the government should focus more on improving institutions and ensuring that citizens feel the impact of governance in their daily lives.
The APC maintained that healthcare and education remain fundamental responsibilities of any government and urged the state administration to prioritise these areas rather than relying on what it described as publicity-driven achievements.
The allegations have added to ongoing political debates in Oyo State, where opposition parties have continued to assess the performance of the Makinde administration ahead of future elections.
The Oyo State Government has, however, consistently defended its record, highlighting various programmes and investments aimed at improving healthcare services, renovating schools, and strengthening public institutions.
Government officials have maintained that the administration has made significant progress in several sectors and remains committed to improving the welfare of residents across the state.
The latest accusations by the APC have renewed discussions about the state of social services in Oyo, particularly the need for sustainable investment in healthcare and education.
As political activities continue to build ahead of the 2027 general elections, issues surrounding public services, infrastructure, and governance are expected to remain major topics of discussion among political parties, civil society groups, and residents.
