A devastating attack unfolded in the Yar Bulutu community of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on the night of July 21, 2026, when suspected bandits stormed the village, killing two residents—including a community volunteer known for using the mosque loudspeaker to warn villagers of imminent threats—and rustling an unspecified number of livestock. According to eyewitness accounts, the bandits, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, targeted the home of Malam Nasiru, a respected community figure who had reportedly been on the bandits' radar for his vigilance. Nasiru had earned the ire of the criminals by using the mosque's public address system to alert residents whenever suspicious movements were observed in and around the community. His actions had helped prevent several attacks and abductions, but they also placed a target squarely on his back. “Malam Nasiru was a brave man. The Yar Bulutu attack comes just days after bandits loyal to Turji killed two people, injured three, and abducted several residents in the neighbouring Kwaren Gamba community on July 19, 2026.
