A combined team of security operatives and local vigilantes has rescued Alhaji Tukur, a resident of Aboki Village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, who was abducted during a bandit attack on Tuesday night, July 21, 2026. The operation, which also led to the neutralisation of several bandits, came after the assailants invaded the community, killing one resident and abducting two others before security forces intervened. The rescue was carried out along the Dusin Gogo axis of Kaiama LGA, where security agencies engaged the fleeing criminals in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon their captives and retreat into the surrounding bush.
According to reports, the attackers stormed Aboki Village on Tuesday evening, shooting sporadically and creating panic among residents. During the raid, the bandits killed a bricklayer identified as Mallam Musa and abducted Alhaji Tukur alongside another resident. A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that the terrorists killed one person during the attack and abducted two residents before attempting to escape. Security operatives, working alongside local vigilante groups, swiftly mobilised after receiving information about the attack and pursued the gunmen, engaging them in a confrontation that forced them to abandon the abducted victims and flee.
The rescue operation, which took place along the Dusin Gogo axis, resulted in the neutralisation of several bandits during the encounter. Alhaji Tukur and the other abducted victim were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families. The killing of Mallam Musa, however, has thrown Aboki Community into mourning, with residents expressing growing fear over the recurring security threats facing communities in Kaiama Local Government Area and other parts of Kwara State. Security agencies have assured the public that operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.
The attack on Aboki Village comes just days after another violent incident in Babanla, Ifelodun Local Government Area, where bandits reportedly killed one resident and abducted another. Residents of Babanla have accused influential individuals of discouraging people from speaking publicly about the worsening insecurity, claiming they were warned to remain silent because a notorious bandit kingpin allegedly operates from the area. The latest incidents have renewed calls for stronger security measures across Kwara communities, with residents urging authorities to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state.
