A devastating attack on the Yar Bulutu community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State has claimed the lives of two residents, including a local man who had become a target for his bravery in using the mosque's public address system to warn villagers of impending bandit attacks. The assailants, who struck on the night of July 21, 2026, also rustled several livestock belonging to residents before fleeing the scene, according to local sources cited by security analyst Bakatsine.
Among those killed was Malam Nasiru, a community member who had reportedly been on the bandits' radar for some time. According to sources, Nasiru regularly used the mosque's loudspeaker to alert villagers whenever suspicious movements of armed men were noticed around the community. His vigilance had helped protect his neighbours from surprise attacks, but it also placed a target squarely on his back. The attack on Yar Bulutu is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the area, coming just days after bandits killed two residents and abducted several others in the neighbouring Kwaren Gamba community. The recurring violence has left residents living in constant fear, with many calling on the Federal and Sokoto State Governments to take urgent action to address the worsening security situation.
