The Oyo State Police Command has dismantled a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in the diversion and unlawful conversion of goods in transit, arresting two suspects and recovering a consignment valued at approximately N32 million in a major blow to economic saboteurs operating in the state. The operation, conducted by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit, Oyo Operational Base, in the Irepo area of Oyo Town, followed credible intelligence on the activities of the syndicate. The suspects, identified as Olawale Kareem, 40, and Ogunbiyi Monday, 46, were apprehended during the raid, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the criminal network.
The police recovered an IVECO truck and trailer with registration number MUS 809 XY (Lagos), loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn that had allegedly been diverted while being transported from Kaduna State. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a syndicate engaged in the diversion of goods for unlawful financial gain, and they have confessed to their respective roles in the crime. The recovery of the consignment, valued at approximately N32 million, represents a significant success in the command's efforts to protect legitimate commercial activities and combat economic sabotage.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response to actionable intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and commercial activities across the state. He further warned individuals involved in economic sabotage and other criminal acts to desist or face the full weight of the law. The police commissioner urged transporters, logistics operators, business owners, and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the appropriate channels. The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within the state.
