The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has handed over the sum of N108 million to Greenwich Planet Sun King Nigeria Limited, a Lagos-based company that fell victim to an elaborate fraud scheme allegedly orchestrated by two of its former employees. The handover, which took place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the EFCC's office in Lagos, was made in the form of bank drafts and represents part of the funds recovered during the commission's investigation into a case of abuse of office, forgery, stealing, and diversion of funds. The investigation targeted the company's former Chief Financial Officer, Godson Eze, and another former employee, Nkechi Gladys Megai, who is currently at large after fleeing to the United Kingdom.

According to the EFCC, the suspects abused their positions by forging documents, creating fake invoices in the names of the company's legitimate vendors, and diverting funds through fraudulent transactions carried out over a period of time. The fraudulent payments, the commission said, ran into several hundreds of millions of naira, underscoring the scale of the scheme that had gone undetected for a significant period. The investigation, which involved forensic accounting and painstaking evidence gathering, successfully traced and recovered a portion of the stolen funds, leading to the restitution made on Wednesday.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Bawa Usman Kaltungo, reaffirmed the commission's commitment to ensuring that victims of economic and financial crimes obtain justice and, where possible, recover assets fraudulently obtained from them. Kaltungo disclosed that efforts are ongoing to ensure that all persons connected with the fraud, including those who have fled the country, are brought to justice in accordance with the law. His remarks underscored the EFCC's determination to pursue fugitives and close the net on individuals who believe they can evade accountability by leaving Nigeria.

The company's legal representatives, while receiving the bank drafts, expressed appreciation to the EFCC for its painstaking investigation, professionalism, and commitment to recovering the stolen funds. They assured the commission that the recovered money would go a long way towards mitigating the losses suffered by the company. The handover marks a significant milestone in the commission's ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and protect the integrity of Nigeria's corporate sector, while also serving as a warning to employees and executives who may be tempted to exploit their positions for personal gain. The case also highlights the importance of robust internal controls and the vigilance of regulatory agencies in safeguarding businesses from internal fraud.

The EFCC has reiterated its resolve to continue its fight against economic and financial crimes, assuring the public that it will leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of justice for victims of fraud. The commission has also urged companies to strengthen their internal control mechanisms and to report any suspicious activities promptly to enable timely intervention. As the hunt for the fleeing suspect continues, the recovery and handover of the N108 million stands as a testament to the EFCC's capacity to unravel complex financial schemes and deliver restitution to victims, reinforcing public confidence in the agency's mandate.
