Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a work-free day for all categories of public servants in Osun State on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The directive, conveyed in a circular by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, covers all state and local government staff, as well as workers in tertiary institutions across the state. The governor's decision underscores the importance of voter participation and the critical role of the election in shaping the future of the state.
According to the circular, workers on essential duties such as medical personnel and security staff are advised to make necessary arrangements among themselves to ensure that the work-free day does not have negative consequences on the lives of citizens. Governor Adeleke urged public servants and other informal workers to collect their voter cards as urgently as possible, reminding the public of how critical next month's election is to the state and her future. "I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voters card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box," the governor admonished members of the public.
The work-free day comes just over two weeks before the Osun State governorship election, which is scheduled for August 15, 2026. The Independent National Electoral Commission has been distributing Permanent Voter Cards to eligible voters across the state, with collection points set up at registration areas and local government offices.
