Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully rescued an abducted soldier and a civilian during a fighting patrol targeting a terrorists' enclave in Zamfara State. The rescue operation, conducted on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, involved troops deployed at Gwashi who raided a known hideout in the area, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

During the operation, the troops freed Lance Corporal Basiru Labbo, who had been abducted on July 22, 2026, along the Zuru–Anka Road. The soldier had spent seven days in captivity before the rescue. The troops also rescued Lauwali Dan Ada, a civilian resident of Kasahola Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Both victims were immediately evacuated to the troops' location, where they underwent debriefing, medical evaluation, and other necessary administrative procedures.

Lieutenant Colonel Danja reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustained offensive operations and rescue missions aimed at protecting lives and restoring peace across the North-West region. The latest rescue comes as the military intensifies pressure on terrorist hideouts in Zamfara and neighbouring states.

The successful rescue underscores the continued effectiveness of ongoing offensive operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which has been instrumental in degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and bandits in the region. The operation, which has been ongoing for several months, has recorded multiple successes, including the rescue of dozens of kidnap victims and the neutralisation of numerous terrorist elements. The military's intensified efforts in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West are part of a broader strategy to restore security and stability to communities that have been ravaged by banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality. As troops continue their patrols and offensive operations, the hope is that more abducted victims will be rescued and the reign of terror by criminal elements will be brought to an end.
